3 Steps

The Road To Re-Entry Program is a unified effort of four key organizations: St. Julien Communications Group, Houston Crime Coalition, Professional Sales Institute, and Restoration Assistance Program.

Our objectives are to:

  • Help ex-offenders to prepare for and help locate employment through job readiness training, specialized training, employer accessibility, and retention support.
  • Among ex-offenders, lower the frequency of recidivist individuals upon society and the Texas criminal justice system.
  • Lower costs and increase tax dollar savings by assisting in smoothly transitioning the participant back into society with tangible, certified and highly desirable skill sets.
  • Develop a portal of hope for the participant and their respective families by restoring their lifestyle, societal normalcy and self-esteem.
  • Serve as a practical and positive influence for others with physical and/or mental disabilities and inmates looking forward to re-entry and are uncertain how to make significant transformations in their life and future.

We accomplish this through taking our clients through a 3 step process.  See below:

Step 1:

  • Participant will receive a thorough Intake that includes health (mental and medical), education/literacy, housing and transportation issues.
  • Participant will receive a Job Assessment that focuses on client’s work history and skill set, including transferable skills.
  • Participant will participate in the development of an Individual Employment Plan, establishing goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely.
  • Participant will receive Case Management that will address issues identified during the intake process, as well as, gaining proper Identification.
  • Participant will receive email accounts for communication regarding employment opportunities.
  • Participant will receive Case Management and Job Coaching as needed throughout program participation.
  • Participant will receive follow up Case Management for a minimum of three (3) months post employment if employed within 30 days of graduation from Professional Sales Institute.
  • Participant will receive Substance Abuse Counseling and/or Referrals as needed.

Step 2:

Participant will attend Professional Sales Institute (PSI) for a certified professional sales training course. PSI is a state wide outreach program designed to provide vocational services to recently released inmates on the processes and techniques involved in developing a sales or sales related career. PSI’s career/job preparedness training will provide sales and sales related communication and interaction skill sets as well as customer and workplace etiquette techniques. For those re-entering into the workplace after certification, our goal is to position you to find employment after receiving a passing grade after completing the course objectives.

Step 3:

After a number of graduates have completed Professional Sales Training, we administer an employment fair which focuses on the following goals:

  • To balance public safety and promote the integration of people coming home from prison
  • To increase employment opportunities available to people who are struggling to successfully integrate and remain crime-free
  • To encourage employers to make individualized determinations about a persons specific qualifications, including the relevance of a criminal record, rather than having flat bans against hiring people with criminal records

This fair also presents many benefits such as:

There are many key benefits that an employment fair of this focus will offer:

  • Employers benefit from incentive programs by the federal government when hiring someone with a criminal record.
  • The Federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) provides a tax credit for employers that hire ex-offenders.
  • The state of Texas can beginning to unload prisons and add taxpayers to the system instead of spending taxpayer’s money on welfare abuse, increased police, etc.
  • Small business will increase profits by hiring ex-offenders through improving productivity, cutting costs, and reducing turnover.
  • It will benefit ex-offenders by providing a supportive workplace, and by creating happier employees who are learning honesty, responsibility, and integrity.
  • An ex-offender who is able to support him or her self legally is less likely to commit crimes to get money and will have a greater sense of self respect, will be a better family role model, will have more control over his/her destiny, and will have a sense of accomplishment.
